Over 100 years old museum in Hai Phong

Hai Phong Museum has beautiful architecture, built in late 1918, and is now a cultural center, where many precious artifacts are displayed and young people’s check-in points are displayed.



Hai Phong Museum is located at 65 Dien Bien Phu Street, Hong Bang District. This building was built in 1918 by a Hong Kong business group. After a period of loss, the investor sold this work to a French capitalist. Since about 1920, the building has been known as the Franco-Chinese Bank.

After Hai Phong’s liberation (May 13, 1955), the building was used as a banking college. In 1958, at the request of Hai Phong City People’s Committee, the Ministry of Finance handed over this building to be used as a museum. On December 20, 1959, after a period of repair, Hai Phong Museum was inaugurated.

The building is about 16 m high (excluding the height of two towers), has two floors, a basement, a floor area of ​​​​about 1,200 m2. After many renovations, Hai Phong Museum still retains the original exterior architecture and basic internal structure as it was more than 100 years ago.

Two-thirds of the museum’s basement area is devoted to storing and preserving artifacts, equipment originally equipped for preservation such as corrugated iron boxes, iron shelves, wooden shelves, glass cabinets… and a series of them. documents.

The two floors of Hai Phong Museum are divided into 16 galleries with 12 contents and one room for thematic exhibitions celebrating major national and city holidays, as well as related cultural events. according to historical progress.

The museum has more than 22,000 artifacts and is displaying 1,736 artifacts, 840 images and documents.

In order to be closer to the public, for many years, Hai Phong Museum has learned new display methods from leading museums in the country as well as museum systems around the world. Upgrading the content and form of display, applying modern display methods helps the museum become more beautiful and lively.

Hai Phong Museum is open to visitors for free from Tuesday to Sunday. This is not only a place to display and preserve historical artifacts, but also a place for Hai Phong people to introduce the process of formation and development to friends from all over the world.
