
Vietnam welcomed 232,000 international passengers in the first quarter of the year, up 502% over the same period last year, the Civil Aviation Authority reported.
The data showed, in April alone, the airlines operated about 30,000 flights, down 2.4% over the same period last year.
Moreover, airports across the country welcomed 6.6 million passengers, including 232,000 international passengers, down 14.3% annually, the VOV citied the report from Civil Aviation Authority.

Compared to the same period of last year, number of international passengers using domestic airlines also increased by 214.7%, while domestic passengers decreased slightly by 18.2%.
Regarding freight transport in April, the volume of goods through Vietnam’s airports increased by 18.4%, reaching 140,700 tons. Of which, international cargo volume increased by 45.3% to 117,700 tons, while domestic cargo volume reached 23,000 tons, down 39.1%.
As the number of international passengers are increasing, Vietnamese airlines have recently increased the number of flights and restored international air routes.
Most recently, the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines revealed that it will seek to increase the frequency of flights on eight routes to Japan and South Korea from May 15, and restore three routes to South Korea from June 01, according to Civil Aviation Authority.
