Phu Mau flower village (Phu Mau commune, Hoa Vang district) is the oldest and largest famous flower village in Hue, supplying ornamental flowers to neighboring provinces. Phu Mau flowers are planted on dozens of hectares in Vong Tri, The Vinh, Thanh Tien, and Tien Non villages.

The village grows flowers all year round, but the most brilliant in the Lunar New Year. Most people’s houses have their own flower gardens, they will plant and take care of flowers for 4 months, leaving around December 23. From about December 20, this place is crowded with traders, traders and tourists taking pictures. Visitors can visit the garden and take pictures for free.

The traditional flowers in Phu Mau village include persimmons, chrysanthemums, marigolds, dahlias, coins… In spring, all kinds of flowers bloom, making the scene more dreamy.

Thuy Xuan incense village is also a destination visitors should not miss when coming to Hue during Tet. This place is about 7 km from Hue City, located on the route to visit Tu Duc Tomb. Here, visitors will be able to admire, take pictures with bundles of colorful incense sticks, or buy and display altars.

Due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, many shops in the village have closed in the past time, but now, near Tet, the village has become more bustling. Ms. Anh Tuyet (70 years old), who has been with the incense village for decades, shares that the stages of making handmade incense are very sophisticated, but the people here do it because they love the job. From early in the morning, she manually mixes the flour, takes incense, dries the incense core… and sells goods to tourists.

Thuy Xuan incense village is famous for its hundreds of years of incense craft. People maintain making incense to keep their father’s profession, so it is friendly for tourists to visit and learn about the profession. Incense powder is usually mixed with cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, eucalyptus, pine buds, cinnamon… So from the moment you step foot into the village, even though you haven’t seen the incense yet, you can smell the scent spreading in the space. .

Thanh Tien paper flower village is located in Phu Mau commune, Hoa Vang district. This is a famous destination for making worshiping paper flowers for hundreds of years. Every year, people here only make flowers in December, so there is still a folk song: “Green green red red yellow yellow. Every December, the whole village makes flowers”. Duc Hieu shared that when coming here, entering any house, adults and children are all like artisans, even though they are farmers, their hands are skillful and talented.

The old custom of the Hue people, on Tet holiday, paper flowers will be displayed in solemn places such as Trang Ong, Trang Ba, Ong Tao… Today this belief has also spread to many localities such as Da Nang and Quang Tri. Paper flowers are dyed in five colors, forming large trees. In addition, the people of Thanh Tien village also simulate real flowers such as lotus, wall vi, chrysanthemum… like the real thing.

When learning about Tet craft villages, visitors should not miss Dia Linh village, the only village producing statues of Mr. Cong and Mr. Tao in Thua Thien Hue. The village of Huong Vinh commune, Huong Tra town only produces this statue in December. But from the 7th to the 8th lunar month, they have prepared the clay to clean the impurities and mold it in October.

The statues of Mr. Cong and Mr. Tao are shaped like two men sitting on two sides, and a woman sitting in the middle. The clay will be molded with ironwood, then dried in the sun and fired in a kiln. After the statue is baked, it has a light red color, the producer will skillfully paint the color to create an eye-catching look before it is released to the market. Each day, a household kiln can burn up to 5,000 statues. The burning smell from the baked clay, the clicking sound of the statue molds in the village, like a herald of spring.

Every Tet holiday, Ha Cang ginger jam village (Quang Phu commune, Quang Dien district) is red again. Not as large as the Kim Long area, dozens of households in Ha Cang village still maintain their traditional craft. From the 10th lunar month every year, they start making jam and peak in November and December.

The ginger jam here is made from a ginger root grown in A Luoi highland, Hue, so it has a characteristic pungent taste. After being peeled, washed, thinly sliced, ginger will be soaked in lemon juice, then sugared and slug on the fire. All stages are handmade, sophisticated by the elderly, especially without preservatives. Visitors can directly see the stages and buy them as gifts.
