The longest sea-crossing bridge in Quang Ninh province has just been completed

QUANG NINH – On the Van Don – Mong Cai highway, there are 32 bridges worth from several tens of billions to hundreds of billions of dong, of which Van Tien bridge is the longest and has the largest total investment.

Van Tien Bridge is more than 1.5 km long, connecting the two districts of Van Don and Tien Yen (Quang Ninh province) was merged on the morning of December 5, with a total investment of nearly 800 billion VND. This is the largest bridge out of 32 bridges on the entire Van Don – Mong Cai highway, and at the same time the longest bridge in Quang Ninh province up to this point.

The work is designed with a reinforced concrete permanent structure more than 1.5 km long, 25.25 m wide; Expressway standards with 4 lanes for cars and 2 lanes for emergency stop ensure a maximum speed of 120 km/h.

During the implementation process, the project is assessed by experts as having high difficulty due to complex topographical and geological conditions in the area, fast tidal currents, 3-5 m difference, the bottom is a layer of water. rocks, water depth is over 17 m (equivalent to Bai Chay bridge). Therefore, locating boring drilling, anchoring floating system to serve bridge construction takes a long time.

Group of workers grafting formwork to concrete the median strip in the middle of the bridge. After the construction is completed, the project moves to the finishing stage of items such as lighting, plastic carpet on the bridge deck, traffic safety system and landscape.

Nearly 300 officials and workers worked in three continuous shifts on the construction site of Van Tien bridge.

Connecting with Van Tien bridge towards Van Don district is Dai Xuyen bridge with 450 m length, a total investment of 167 billion VND. The construction unit is installing concrete beams at the last piers.

A group of workers is reinforcing steel frames to install beams of Taichuan Bridge.

More than a kilometer from Van Tien bridge towards Tien Yen district is Tien Yen 1 bridge 817 m long.

Tien Yen 1 bridge piers have been completed, the construction unit is installing the remaining bridge girders.

Mr. Vu Van Khanh, Director of the Management Board of Investment and Construction of Traffic Works in Quang Ninh Province, said that on the whole Van Don – Mong Cai Expressway, there are 32 bridges, while the Van Don – Tien Yen section has 8 bridges. located close to each other, including Van Tien Bridge and Hop Long. “We will pour concrete all over the bridge decks of the remaining 7 bridges, striving to open the route on December 31,” Mr. Khanh said.

The path connecting Van Tien bridge and Tien Yen bridge 1 is being grounded. This part of the road goes through the mountains, so the construction process faces many difficulties.

Van Don – Mong Cai Expressway started construction in April 2019 with a total capital of 11,195 billion VND. The route is 80.23 km long, 25.25 m wide, has 4 lanes, a maximum speed of 100 km/h.

In early May 2020, Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee proposed the Government adjust this highway in the direction of separating it into two independent projects, increasing the maximum speed from 100 to 120 km/h. Accordingly, the Van Don – Tien Yen route is 16.8 km long, deployed in the form of public investment, with a total investment of 3,667 billion VND. The Tien Yen – Mong Cai route is 63.26 km long, implemented in the form of a public-private partnership (PPP), under a BOT contract, with an estimated adjusted total investment of more than VND8,509 billion.

When completed by the end of this year, the project will shorten the time from Van Don to Mong Cai to 50 minutes instead of 2 hours; contributing to the completion of the expressway from Lao Cai through Hanoi and Hai Phong to Mong Cai city (Quang Ninh), forming the longest seamless highway in Vietnam.
