The 500-year-old temple on the banks of the River Thousand Pho

HA TINH – Truc Temple is located on the banks of the River Thousand Pho, Tan My Ha Commune, Huong Son District, worshiping two brave generals of King Le Loi’s reign, Tran Le and Tran Dat.

Truc Temple was built in the 16th century on an area of thousands of square meters in Tan Ho village, Son Tan commune, now Tan My Ha commune, Huong Son district. The temple worships Tran Le and Tran Dat, two brave generals of King Le Loi’s reign.

The temple is located on the banks of the River Thousand Pho. The river has another name, Pho river, is a tributary of La river, flowing mainly in Huong Son district. The river is a famous scenic spot of Ha Tinh, once entered into poetry and music painting.

The temple consists of three buildings: the lower hall, the middle hall and the upper palace. The architectural complex outside the temple also has a system of trees and stone benches surrounding it. The work was ranked as a provincial historical and cultural relic in 2003.

Legend has it that, in 1425, two brave generals Tran Le and Tran Dat, while fighting with the Ming army, were seriously injured, then rode along the banks of the River Ngan Pho, arrived at Tan Ho village, fell and died.

Later, at the place where the two generals fell, bamboo clumps grew, gradually spreading into a large bamboo forest. To remember the merits, local people built a temple, called Truc temple, calling the two generals the village Thanh Hoang. The two men were later ordained by King Le as “Upper Supreme Spirit”.

Over time, the bamboo tree died down, until now, there are only a few clumps left in front of the temple.

The three buildings of the lower palace, the middle hall and the upper hall were built with a cover, the inside is mainly made of jackfruit wood.

In the central court, the altar collapsed, displaying the mandarin hats and swords of two generals Tran Le and Tran Dat.

In the middle of the palace, there are two large palanquins with the meaning to process Tran Le and Tran Dat.

The two sides of the lower house put two parallel horses, for the purpose of two generals riding to fight the enemy.

The roofs of the buildings are delicately carved with themes such as four spirits, stylized flowers, dragons adoring the moon, dragons hovering in the clouds…

The three roofs of the power buildings are roofed with yin and yang tiles, and the top is designed in the shape of many dragons in a flying position and turning their heads to each other.

Since its construction until now, the temple has undergone many restorations, the largest in 1944, the most recent in 2018.

The campus is surrounded by rows of mother-of-pearl trees about 30 years old. Under the tree are arranged stone benches for people to rest.

Currently, Mr. Nguyen Ba De, 72 years old, residing in Tan My Ha commune, has been appointed by the government to look after the temple. Every day he comes to clean the campus, clean the items placed inside the three electric buildings. When there were tourists visiting, he guided them to burn incense and introduce the history of the temple.

“The temple is located on the banks of the River Ngan Pho with spacious and airy space, the wind blows all day. Many people who come here compliment the beautiful, poetic scenery, they often linger for a long time to take souvenir photos.” Mr. De said.

Every year, the Truc Temple welcomes thousands of visitors inside and outside the province to burn incense and study historical and architectural values. Follow vnexpress
