How to get to the 9th Street National Cemetery

From other provinces, you can get to the National Cemetery of Route 9 by many different means such as plane, bus, train or even motorbike. Here are specific instructions: 

– Bus: From Hanoi, please buy tickets for flights from Hanoi to Quang Tri or from Hanoi to Hue and then down to Quang Tri. Some garages for your reference such as: Hoa Hong, Quang Luyen, Quang Tuu, Minh Map. If departing from Saigon you can choose the garage Quang Loc, Duc Trang, Tien Thanh, Tien Dat Thanh.  

– Railway: Trains from Hanoi to Dong Ha City will take about 12 hours to travel, trains from Saigon Station will take about 20-24 hours. 

Airplane: Those who live in further provinces can use planes to save travel time. However, currently, Quang Tri still does not have an airport, so you need to take flights to the airport in Quang Binh – or Hue. When you get off the airport, you go to the bus station to catch a bus or you can also take the train to Quang Tri, it will take about 2 hours to arrive.

When you reach the center of Dong Ha town , you can rent a motorbike or take a taxi to get to the cemetery on Road 9 Quang Tri conveniently and quickly.

Road 9 National Cemetery was built in 1983, so far this cemetery has become a destination for many residents and visitors. The 9th Street Martyrs Cemetery, built in 1995, is the resting place of thousands of heroes and martyrs of all ranks and military ranks. They are soldiers, militiamen, young volunteers who sacrificed themselves to save the country. 

The cemetery has 16 items with a capital of 13 billion VND, including the monument area and the solemn ceremony area. The total area of ​​this area is 13 hectares, with about 10,000 tombs of heroes and martyrs. Of these, there are only more than 3,000 graves with exact identities.

The monument at National Cemetery of Road 9 is 18m high with a pedestal including 2 tombs. The eastern tomb and the western tomb have their own meanings. The monument is the image of a soldier and a Laotian baby and a young girl carrying the joy of liberation day. The monument represents the neighboring connection between Vietnam and your country.

The ceremony area includes 4 clusters of statues, a memorial house and a bas-relief. Memorial house and 3 bas-reliefs. This area is 90 square meters with a structure of 4 round columns and 4 roofs. The roof of the memorial has a 5-pointed star of Vietnam. The memorial house consists of 3 reliefs located in the East, West and South.

– Cluster 1: Statue of a soldier holding a B41 gun with soldiers of Pathet Lao.

– Cluster 2: Statues of the three armies after the liberation day.

– Cluster 4: Statue of a guerrilla and a young volunteer girl.
