Communal house nearly 2 centuries in the middle of Tay Do land

CAN THO – Dinh Binh Thuy was established in 1844, is a cultural heritage of special significance in the spiritual life of the people of the South.

Nearly 2 centuries ago, Binh Thuy or Longquan communal house, the old temple, was roofed with leaves, wood and has been restored 2 times. The current temple was built in 1909, construction time is within one year, is one of the oldest houses in the South.

The communal house is located on an area of ​​more than 4,000 square meters in Binh Thuy ward, Binh Thuy district. The communal house has a prime location according to the old feng shui concept: the East borders Binh Thuy river, the North borders the Hau river, the South borders Le Hong Phong street, the West borders the residential area.

Each row of columns in the communal house is hung with a matching sentence, but two rows of columns in the middle are carved intricately and have additional decorative patterns.

The roof is designed in the “four sea” style often found in old houses in the South.

The temple was stored on a high and deep ground. The front and back houses have 6 rows of columns, the layout with 5 shrine rooms and 2 internal corridors.

The temple worships the gods, the Citadel of Thanh Hoang and other heroes who made merit to the country such as Tran Hung Dao, Phan Boi Chau, Bui Huu Nghia, Nguyen Trung Truc, Dinh Cong Chanh …

Outside the communal house, there are 4 shrines to worship 4 deities, God of Agriculture, God of Tiger, God of Forest and God of God Khai Canal.

Students in Can Tho city often come to the communal house to learn about local culture, history and beliefs. On April 12-15 of the lunar calendar every year, the Peaceful Ky ​​Binh Thuy festival is held, attracting visitors from all over the world to attend. In 2018, this festival was recognized as the National Intangible Cultural Heritage. Before that, in 1989, Binh Thuy communal house was recognized as a National Historic and Cultural Heritage.
