Taiwan (China) tops the search list for all types of travelers: couples, singles, families or groups. This territory pushed Thailand, first last year, to second, followed by Japan, Vietnam and South Korea. The United States, Australia, Hong Kong (China), Malaysia and Indonesia occupy the remainder of the top 10.

Agoda data also shows differences between the destinations searched by type of traveler. Specifically, Japan and Thailand ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively for solo travelers, while family travelers were interested in travel deals to Thailand and Vietnam. According to Tim Hughes, vice president of business development at Agoda, although research data showed an increase in demand for domestic tourism when the restriction on travel within countries was relaxed, many people still dream of travel abroad.

The data also shows the desire to travel and explore one's country of origin, alone, with family or friends.

In Vietnam, domestic tourism is also a priority choice by the end of the year, with no foreign destinations appearing on the Vietnamese list at this time.

Ho Chi Minh City fell to 10th place and was replaced by Da Lat as the 5th most searched destination in 2020.
