V.League horror tackle garners attention from foreign media outlets
  • Ngo Hoang Thinh’s tackle that broke Do Hung Dung’s leg has garnered attention from some foreign media outlets.
  • U.K. newspaper Sportbible called it “one of the worst tackles we’ve ever seen” and Dung’s broken leg, “sickening.”
  • Visit Vietnam Insider for more stories.

“It’s one of the worst we have seen for a long, long time and looked like a definite leg break for Hung Dung, who was laying in complete agony,” it wrote.

Another U.K. newspaper, GiveMeSport, also called the challenge “the worst tackle ever.”

“It was a truly horrendous challenge and Hung Dung suffered a broken leg. He is now expected to be out for the remainder of the season. We wish him all the best and a speedy recovery,” the site wrote.

Spanish football newspaper Marca also uploaded a clip of the awful challenge, calling it “hard to watch.”

“A horror tackle in Vietnam has gone viral. The challenge left Do Hung Dung rolling around in agony, with replays showing his leg bending into an unnatural position,” Marca wrote.

In the 27th minute of the V. League game on Tuesday, midfielder Ngo Hoang Thinh of HCMC FC, in an attempt to stop a counterattack, made a two-footed tackle on Hanoi FC’s Dung, who collapsed immediately and screamed in pain.

X-rays showed the lower half of Dung’s shin bone was broken, an injury likely to keep him out of the game for at least a year. After surgery, Dung will stay in hospital for three days before starting his recovery process.

Dung won the V. League thrice with his club as well as the 2018 AFF Cup and 2019 SEA Games gold medal with Vietnam.

With Dung absent, the Vietnam national team would certainly meet some difficulties when they play their remaining World Cup Asian qualifiers against Malaysia, Indonesia and United Arab Emirates in June.
