Year-end passenger traffic seen surging at Tan Son Nhat

HCMC – Passenger traffic is forecast to shoot up at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCMC during New Year and Lunar New Year holidays.

The airport is expected to receive 115,000 passengers during the New Year holiday and 130,000 during the Lunar New Year holiday, up 10% against the same period in the pre-pandemic year 2019.

Between January 6 and February 5, 2023, Tan Son Nhat will provide 44 daily slots for aircraft to take off and land, given a surge in travel demand.

Due to the spike in air passenger traffic, taxi service firms plan to offer 13,000 and 14,000 taxi trips per day.

The roads around the airport will become overwhelmed, so relevant agencies are working to seek ways to ease traffic congestion at rush hours.

In 2022, there were 34 million passengers passing through the airport. Though its operation has yet to reach pre-pandemic performance, the rise in passengers has been remarkable.

The airport served 41 million passengers in 2019, while its annual capacity is 28 million.
