The board of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham Hanoi) elected Mr. John Rockhold as its new Chairman for 2022. He succeeds Bay Global Strategies’ Virginia Foote who held the post in 2020 and 2021. Mr. Rockhold will also serve as the National Chairman of AmCham Vietnam this year.

Mr. Rockhold said that he looks forward to working with AmCham members to further foster and deepen economic, social and business ties between Vietnam and the United States. He added, “It is with great humility that I take on this position to strengthen AmCham as the voice of American business in Vietnam in order to create a competitive and sustainable business climate for companies and investors here. I look forward to working with my AmCham colleagues to ensure the organization’s ongoing success.”

Mr. Rockhold has been living and working in Vietnam since 1992 and serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Chan May LNG JSC to implement climate change projects and help Vietnam meet its energy security needs. Mr. Rockhold also serves as Co-Chair of AmCham’s Energy Committee and as Chairman of the Vietnam Business Forum Power and Energy Working Group.

At today’s meeting of the AmCham Hanoi Board of Governors, the board also selected Mr. Gaurav Sharma (BIDV-MetLife) as Vice Chair, Ms. Virginia Foote (Bay Global Strategies) as Vice Chair, Ms. Ha Thu Thanh (Deloitte) as Treasurer, and Mr. Michael DiGregorio (The Asia Foundation) as Chapter Secretary.

Founded in 1994, AmCham Hanoi is a non-profit organization whose primary mission is to increase trade and investment between the United States and Vietnam. AmCham members account for billions of dollars in foreign investment, tens of thousands of direct employees, hundreds of thousands of indirect employees, and a significant share of Vietnam’s exports and tax revenues.

AmCham and our member companies are optimistic about prospects for reopening, recovery, and rebound. We remain committed to ensuring that business is not disrupted any more than necessary during the Covid period and we will work with our partners in the government and private sector to promote resilient, sustainable growth in Vietnam so that new opportunities for the future are realized.
