HDBank and Proparco Reserve $50 Million to Develop Green Projects in Vietnam

As one of the pioneer banks in the field of green credit, over the years, HDBank has actively contributed to promoting Vietnam's economic development together with efforts to minimize impacts on the environment and to combat climate change. This loan is also a stepping stone for HDBank to get closer to international standards on green credit.

All projects funded by HDBank meet green criteria such as: reducing energy consumption, reducing CO2 emissions, reducing environmental pollution; project investment license/project development plans, project plans aligning with loan purposes and green growth target.

These green projects promise to create more than 1,350 direct and indirect jobs in the coming time, bringing career opportunities and ensuring income for workers in relevant localities. These benefits contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

With the common viewpoints on sustainable development, creating long-term values for the economy as well as the community and society, the two parties look forward to having more strategic cooperation projects.

Previously, since 2018, HDBank has started sponsoring green projects in Vietnam. The bank has implemented green credit policies in high-tech agriculture, renewable energy and environmentally friendly manufacturing sectors.

Accordingly, as of August 31, 2021, the total outstanding loan balance to finance green projects is nearly VND 13,500 billion. HDBank provides customers with the best financial solutions and promotes sustainable values, advancing the development of renewable energy, ensuring national energy security, supporting high-tech agriculture, and contributing to environmental protection.

With positive contributions to green credit growth, HDBank is the first banking member of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to receive the “Green Deal Award” – for outstanding achievements in green financing when participating in ADB's Trade Finance Program (TFP). HDBank also received the Best Green Credit Financing Bank in 2019 voted by readers of Vietnam Economic Times.
