NDO – Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long has requested that Ho Chi Minh City, the country’s largest COVID-19 hotspot, should pay special attention to five focuses in the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic during a working session with the city’s Party Committee and People’s Committee on August 17.

The five focuses include the strict implementation of social distancing, the implementation of on-site social security, early testing to isolate F0 cases from the community, reduction of the number of COVID-19 fatalities, and the acceleration of vaccination.

The health minister added that 10 testing vehicles will be brought to the city on August 20, with a daily testing capacity of 2,000 to 3,000 samples each. The Ministry of Health will arrange human resources for the testing while the operation of the testing vehicles is under the control of Ho Chi Minh City, Minister Long noted.

*The Ministry of Health allocated 30,000 bottles of Remdesivir to several provinces and cities on August 17 to serve in the treatment of COVID-19 patients. This is the second time the anti-virus drug sent to localities to meet the increasing demand of medical facilities.

Seventeen hospitals with COVID-19 intensive care centres, Can Tho General Hospital, and the Health Departments of Ho Chi Minh City, Tien Giang, Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Long An, Dong Thap, Tay Ninh and Can Tho have received the drugs.

The first batch of Remdesivir, with 10,000 bottles, was used for the treatment of patients in Ho Chi Minh City on August 8.

*The Health Ministry has asked Binh Duong Province to prioritise vaccination for those in pandemic-hit areas, frontline health workers, the elderly, people with underlying diseases, staff of embassies and consulates in Vietnam, and frontline forces serving economic development.

The request was made in response to the province’s proposal on providing COVID-19 vaccination for children aged 12-18.

*Hanoi recorded five COVID-19 cases between 6pm on August 17 and 6am on August 18, all of whom are in quarantine areas.

Hanoi has so far reported 2,313 cases since April 29, including 1,233 infections in the community.
