HCMC – If the Covid-19 pandemic in Danang City is not brought under control in the next four days, Danang will issue a one-week stay-at-home mandate citywide.

At the second meeting of the municipal People’s Council on August 12, secretary of the Danang Party Committee Nguyen Van Quang said the city might take more aggressive anti-pandemic measures, the local media reported.

The stay-at-home mandate will ban local residents from going out without legitimate reasons, while enterprises and factories must make arrangements for their workers to stay at the factories after work.

During the period, the city will conduct large-scale testing to quickly detect those infected with the coronavirus and isolate them from the community to prevent the virus from spreading.

The solution will certainly make life hard for local residents but the city has prepared plans to ensure sufficient supplies of food and essential products.

Over the past 30 days, Danang recorded nearly 1,500 Covid-19 cases and 13 deaths. Patients in critical condition have accounted for 5% of the city’s cases.

Despite practicing social distancing for over 10 days, the city has reported 60-80 daily new cases.

If the new cases continue escalating, the city’s healthcare sector will absolutely be overwhelmed.
