Vietnam reports 4,792 more domestic Covid-19 cases

HCMC - The Ministry of Health this morning, August 11 confirmed 4,802 new Covid-19 cases, including 10 imported cases and 4,792 domestic infections in 21 provinces and cities, taking the country’s caseload in the ongoing fourth wave of Covid-19, which began in late April, to 228,990.

Among the locally-infected cases, HCMC had the biggest number at 2,128, followed by Binh Duong with 936, Long An with 515, Dong Nai with 428, Tay Ninh with 263, Tien Giang with 177 and Ba Ria-Vung Tau with 102.

Vinh Long, Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen, Binh Thuan, Son La, Dong Thap, Kien Giang and Binh Dinh detected 10 to 63 infections each. Six other localities had fewer than 10 cases each.

In the current wave, over 77,570 Covid-19 patients have made a full recovery.

As many as 11 provinces and cities have gone 14 consecutive days without any new Covid-19 infection in the community, including Lao Cai, Ninh Binh, Kon Tum, Ha Giang, Lai Chau, Tuyen Quang, Quang Tri, Nam Dinh, Yen Bai, Thai Binh and Bac Giang.

On August 10, over 1.4 million Covid-19 vaccine doses were administered nationwide, raising the total number of doses given to people in the country to 11.3 million.

HCMC has received 600,000 more AstraZeneca doses allocated by the Ministry of Health to vaccinate residents during its sixth round of Covid-19 vaccination, while Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province is set to complete its fifth phase of inoculation for over 63,000 people before August 15.

To help HCMC and Binh Duong suppress the pandemic, a group of 46 medical workers of the Department of Health under the Public Security Ministry and Hospital 198 and the Traditional Medicine Hospital under the ministry have traveled to the two localities to join the fight.

Meanwhile, Quy Hoa National Leprosy Dermatology Hospital in Binh Dinh Province has sent 22 more medical workers to HCMC, the country’s largest coronavirus hotbed, to support the city in the fight against the pandemic.

Five doctors, 15 nurses and two technicians were assigned to work at a Covid-19 intensive care center in Tan Phu District, the local media reported.

A total of 37 medical workers from the hospital have traveled to the city for the Covid-19 fight, said Dr Vu Tuan Anh, director of the hospital.
