HCMC - An additional 592,100 doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, as part of the 30 million doses ordered by the Vietnam Vaccine JSC (VNVC), arrived at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCMC this morning, August 6.

This is the seventh vaccine shipment that AstraZeneca has sent to Vietnam under a contract with VNVC, the local media reported.

Over the past five weeks, some four million AstraZeneca vaccine doses, part of the 30 million doses, have arrived in Vietnam, taking the total number of doses that AstraZeneca has shipped to the country under the purchase contract to some 4.4 million. Some 25.6 million more doses will soon be shipped to Vietnam.

As of today, Vietnam had taken delivery of some 12 million doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine through the VNVC contract with AstraZeneca, the COVAX Facility and donations from other countries, accounting for 64% of the total volume of vaccines in the country.

Besides, Vietnam has over five million Moderna doses donated by the United States, over 400,000 Pfizer doses purchased by the Ministry of Health, 10,000 Sputnik V doses donated by Russia and 1.5 million Sinopharm doses donated by China and purchased by a firm in HCMC.

Over eight million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered to people in Vietnam, with over 820,000 of them fully vaccinated with two doses.

HCMC is kicking off the sixth round of vaccination for adults. On August 5, the city vaccinated over 221,580 people.
