HCMC gets 980,000 more doses of Covid-19 vaccine

HCMC - The Ministry of Health has allocated some 980,000 more doses of Covid-19 vaccine to HCMC, taking the total number of doses allocated to the coronavirus-hit city to over four million, with half of them already administered to residents in the city.

Under the ministry’s adjusted decision on the 16th vaccine allocation, the number of doses allocated to HCMC rose by 319,000, while hospitals, institutes and central agencies in the city will receive an additional 40,000 doses.

With the over four million doses, including those allocated to hospitals, institutes and national agencies, the vaccine allocation rate for people aged 18 and above in HCMC is 29%.

Speaking at an online press briefing on August 3, HCMC Vice Chairman Duong Anh Duc said the city had administered more than 920,000 doses in the fifth vaccination drive, which lasted for 10 days, from July 22. The city also kicked off the sixth round of vaccination yesterday.

HCMC now has four Covid-19 vaccines: AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer and Vero Cell. AstraZeneca, Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are being used, while China’s Vero Cell is being assessed and inspected by the Ministry of Health.

Up to now, some two million people in HCMC have got shots in arms, with over 70,000 of them receiving two shots.

As many as 1,200 vaccination teams have been set up in HCMC, with each team able to administer 250 doses per day.

In related news, the Ministry of Health has decided to set up a national medical oxygen coordination team led by Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan and a national ventilator coordination team led by Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son.
