HCMC - Vietnam reported 4,374 new Covid-19 cases, including 4,372 domestic infections and two imported cases this morning, August 1, taking the country’s Covid-19 tally to 150,060.

The locally transmitted cases were detected in 19 cities and provinces, including 2,027 in HCMC, 1,415 in Binh Duong, 318 in Long An, 262 in Dong Nai and 67 in Hanoi.

Besides, Vinh Long, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Hau Giang, Ben Tre, Kien Giang, Phu Yen, Tra Vinh, An Giang and Dong Thap reported 16 to 50 cases each. Thanh Hoa, Quang Tri, Hai Duong, Kon Tum and Hung Yen had less than 10 new infections each.

The country has reported 146,198 domestic infections in 62 cities and provinces in the fourth Covid-19 wave since late April.

Up to now, 38,734 Covid-19 patients have fully recovered. Meanwhile, there are currently more than 400 critical patients undergoing treatment at intensive care units.

In HCMC, Covid-19 patients with no symptoms, underlying disease or obesity will now be under a 14-day home quarantine, according to the city’s Department of Health.

The move aims to ease the strain on Covid-19 treatment hospitals and improve the quality of treatment for Covid-19 patients with moderate and severe symptoms.

A Covid-19 patient under home quarantine must stay in a separate room with windows and use a separate toilet, a trash can with closed lid, and trash bags.

If all members of a family are infected with Covid-19, they are not required to stay in separate rooms.

Hand sanitizers, disinfectants for surfaces, face masks, a thermometer, fever reducers and vitamins should be available in the quarantine room.

Covid-19 patients under home quarantine are required to always wear masks, which are changed twice a day, except when eating, drinking and washing. They must wash hands thoroughly with soap and water or alcohol-based disinfectant before handling the masks.

They must check their temperatures at least twice a day and make a health declaration at least once a day via the health declaration app.

They should immediately contact the health authorities if they develop symptoms such as sore throat, diarrhoea, loss of taste or smell, chest pain or shortness of breath.

The local medical centers will come to their home to take samples for Covid-19 testing after 14 days. The patients will end the home quarantine if they test negative for Covid-19.
