HCMC - The Ministry of Health this morning, July 14, reported 909 more Covid-19 cases, with 905 locally infected and four imported, taking the country’s Covid-19 tally to 35,649.
The four imported cases were sent to a centralized quarantine center after entering the country through the Quy Nhon Port in Binh Dinh Province.
Among the 905 locally-infected cases, HCMC accounted for more than two thirds, at 666 cases, followed by Dong Nai with 80 cases, Khanh Hoa with 44 cases and Ben Tre with 43 cases. In addition, 19 other cases were detected in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, 18 in Phu Yen, 17 in Vinh Long, four each in Ninh Thuan and Tay Ninh, two each in Kien Giang, Hue, An Giang and Bac Ninh, and one each in Soc Trang and Binh Dinh.
As many as 688 cases were detected at quarantine centers or in areas under lockdown, and the infection source of 217 others remains unknown, including 208 cases in HCMC.
The latest domestic cases raised the country’s total number of infections in the fourth wave to 31,839, with 17, 239 cases reported in HCMC.
The Ministry of Health last night confirmed two more Covid-19 deaths in HCMC, who were suffering from underlying illnesses, raising the country’s Covid-19 death toll to 132.
One of the deceased was a 65-year-old woman who was quarantined in An Giang after entering Vietnam. She tested positive for Covid-19 on May 5 and was hospitalized at the An Giang General Hospital.
She was transferred to the HCMC Hospital for Tropical Diseases on May 13 and died on July 1.
The other case was also a female resident, aged 77, in Binh Tan District. She was found to be infected with Covid-19 on June 27 and was receiving medical treatment at the HCMC Hospital for Tropical Diseases. She died on July 10.
On July 13, the Phu Yen steering committee for Covid-19 infection prevention and control reported four Covid-19 deaths, including three treated at the Phu Yen General Hospital and one at home.
The three receiving medical treatment at the hospital died on July 12, and the remaining died on July 13.
The Covid-19 case who died at home was suffering from chronic diseases and faced difficulties in walking, so he was not sent to a medical facility.
In related news, the Mong Delta province of Kien Giang on July 13 decided to practice social distancing under the prime minister’s Directive 15 for 17 days from 0 a.m. on July 14 to 30, after detecting 17 Covid-19 cases.
Accordingly, large gatherings of over 10 people in public places have been banned, while nonessential services have been suspended.
On the same day, the Can Tho government also imposed social distancing in line with Directive 16 on Binh Thuy District for 15 days, from 0 a.m. on July 14, due to the complicated developments of pandemic clusters in the city.
Earlier, the same measure had been imposed on Ninh Kieu and Cai Rang districts, while other parts of the city have employed social distancing measures under Directive 15 from July 12.
