Vietnam’s total coronavirus infections surpass 30,000

HCMC – The Ministry of Health confirmed 662 new Covid-19 cases this morning, July 12, sending Vietnam’s tally to 30,478 cases up to now.

Three of the fresh cases were imported ones in An Giang and Vinh Long provinces in the south, while 659 others came from domestic transmission.

HCMC continues to account for the most, at 554 cases, followed by Tien Giang with 43 cases, Khanh Hoa with 27 cases, and Vinh Long with 26 cases. The rest were reported in An Giang, Binh Phuoc, Phu Yen, Hue, and Nghe An.

The ministry said that 478 cases were detected in quarantine centers or areas under lockdown, while the transmission source of the rest remains unknown, including 175 infections in HCMC.

The latest resurgence of Covid-19, which began on April 27, has left 58 out of 63 provinces and cities in the country affected, with 26,930 cases reported.

The ministry last night also confirmed three more Covid-19 deaths in Dong Thap Province, which currently takes the lead in the case number in the Mekong Delta, at 578 cases. All of the three deceased had suffered from underlying health problems.

One of the deceased was a 52-year-old woman in the province’s Sa Dec City. She was pronounced dead on July 6. Another Covid-19 death was a 43-year-old resident of Lap Vo District who died on July 6. The remaining deceased was a 59-year-old man residing in Chau Thanh District who was confirmed dead on July 7.

Overall, the country’s death toll due to Covid-19 has reached 119 cases since the disease hit the country early last year, with 84 fatalities reported in the latest outbreak.
