HCMC - The HCMC Department of Natural Resources and Environment has proposed that four firms--- Vietnam Australia Environment JSC, Green Environment Production and Trade Services Co., Petroleum Environmental and Technical Services Co. and T.L Trading-Environment Protection Co---specializing in treating hazardous waste be prepared to treat Covid-19-related waste in the city.

These firms were told to join medical waste treatment operations in the city when required, the local media reported.

Besides, they were asked to prepare storage equipment, vehicles and areas for treatment and ensure their treatment steps are in line with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment’s regulations on waste treatment.

In addition, it is necessary to ensure safety in the process of collecting, transporting and treating Covid-19-related waste to reduce the risk of pandemic transmission through waste.

Currently, the HCMC Urban Environment Co. is the only State unit treating such hazardous waste. Its waste treatment plant is collecting waste from concentrated quarantine centers and hospitals which treat Covid-19 patients. The unit treats some 32 tons of medical waste each day.
