Vietnam reports 94 domestic Covid-19 infections, two deaths

HCMC - The Ministry of Health this afternoon, June 29, confirmed 102 fresh Covid-19 cases, with eight imported cases and 94 locally-infected ones, and two more Covid-19 deaths in HCMC.

The eight imported cases were reported in Khanh Hoa, Kien Giang and An Giang.

Among the latest domestic infections, HCMC accounted for the most, 54, followed by Hung Yen Province with 14 cases, Bac Giang with 11 cases, Ha Tinh with eight, Bac Ninh with three, Haiphong with two and Dong Thap and Lang Son with one each.

Since the current fourth wave of the coronavirus began on April 27, the country has detected 12,882 community-transmitted cases in 48 provinces and cities.

The new two deceased were men, aged 77 and 54, who had serious underlying health conditions, according to the ministry.

The resident of Binh Tan District in HCMC had a medical history of a stroke and hypertension.

He tested positive for the virus and was transferred to the Trung Vuong Hospital on June 20. He was pronounced dead due to severe pneumonia caused by Covid-19, multi-organ failure and septic shock on the same day.

The other man, who lived in District 1, suffered from hypertension, type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease. He tested positive for Covid-19 on June 19 after developing symptoms of cough and shortness of breath on June 16.

He died on June 26 due to pneumonia caused by Covid-19, respiratory failure, septic shock and multi-organ failure.

The latest Covid-19 deaths raised the nation’s coronavirus death toll to 78 as of this afternoon.

In related news, Danang City has locked down the Tho Quang fishing port after being notified that five residents of Quang Ngai Province who had visited the fishing port tested positive for Covid-19 once.

Besides, the city’s health authorities quickly took samples from employees at the fishing port and residents in Son Tra District’s Nai Hien Dong Ward for Covid-19 testing, the local media reported.

In another development, the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang suspended Bao Dinh Market in My Tho City’s Ward 10 from June 28 after four members of a family in Ward 10 tested positive for the disease.

Health workers of My Tho City are tracing contacts of the Covid-19 cases.

Meanwhile, the Obstetrics Department of Nghe An Friendship General Hospital was locked down from this morning after a suspected Covid-19 case took his wife to the department for a medical checkup.

All medical workers of the department have had their samples taken for testing, while the department was disinfected.

The suspected case is a 33-year-old man who lives in Vinh City. The man is a vendor at the Vinh Wholesale Market, one of Nghe An Province’s three largest clusters of the coronavirus.

On June 25, he and his wife visited the hospital and underwent a quick test. Their test results came back negative for Covid-19. On June 28, he returned to the hospital to pay hospital fees and also underwent a quick Covid-19 test. However, his test result came back positive for the virus.
