HCMC – The Department of Health of the southern province of Binh Duong has worked out a plan to establish a field hospital for Covid-19 treatment by requisitioning a mental illness treatment facility in Tan Uyen Town with a capacity of 200 beds.
On June 25, the provincial government said that the field hospital would be divided into 14 areas which are separate from each other to prevent cross infection and facilitate the treatment of many Covid-19 patients at the same time, the local media reported.
The main areas include the recuperation and emergency area with 15 beds, a 60-bed area for the treatment of patients with mild symptoms and a quarantine area with 25 beds for patients who will soon be discharged from the hospital. In addition, the field hospital has areas for completing administrative procedures, receiving and classifying patients and testing and providing medicines.
Binh Duong will initially prepare 100 beds at the hospital. If the pandemic emerges more complicated and the number of Covid-19 patients increases, the capacity of the field hospital will be raised to 200 beds.
The provincial government will also set up Covid-19 treatment facilities in the medical centers of Thuan An and Di An cities and Ben Cat Town, the Becamex social housing area in Ben Cat Town and the Binh Duong Sports Training and Competition Center.
As of this afternoon, June 25, Binh Duong had 201 Covid-19 cases, mainly in factories and boarding houses. The patients are being treated at the Binh Duong General Hospital.
Binh Duong is now home to 29 industrial parks with more than 500,000 workers. Many factories and enterprises are close to residential areas, so the risk of pandemic transmission is high.
The province has imposed social distancing under the prime minister’s Directive 16 in Tan Uyen Town, Thuan An City and four wards of Thu Dau Mot City.
A delegation of the Ministry of Health is in the province to support the fight against the pandemic. According to the ministry, Binh Duong should increase its testing capacity from 5,000 to 30,000 samples per day and strictly control the areas under lockdown.
