HCMC – Vietnam’s Covid-19 cases have climbed to 14,116 after 127 fresh cases were confirmed this afternoon, June 24, said the Ministry of Health.

The latest patients included one imported case who was sent into quarantine right after she returned to Vietnam from India on June 15.

Of the 126 domestic infections, 119 were found in quarantine centers or areas under lockdown. Specifically, HCMC still accounts for the most at 75 cases, followed by neighboring Binh Duong Province with 27 cases, Bac Giang with 16 cases, Bac Ninh with five cases, Hung Yen with two cases and Thai Binh with one case.

Since the fourth coronavirus wave began on April 27, the country’s total domestic infections have reached 10,820, with 45 provinces and cities affected.

In a related development, the Department of Health in Binh Thuan Province today put the Binh Thuan General Hospital’s Department of Obstetrics on lockdown today until further notice, as one female doctor of the department is suspected of being infected with Covid-19, said Nguyen Quoc Viet, director of the provincial health department.

The hospital will also suspend operations for three days to serve the fight against the coronavirus. During this time, patients visiting the hospital are told to go to other medical centers in the province’s Phan Thiet City.

The suspected case started work as an obstetrician at the hospital 10 days ago. Earlier, she worked at the An Phuc Saigon Polyclinic in Dong Nai Province.

On June 13, she caught a coach from Dong Nai to her hometown in Binh Thuan’s Tuy Phong District where she had close contact with five family members. She went to Phan Thiet City the following day to start the first day of work at the hospital and interacted with patients and her colleagues.

On June 16, she received a shot of a Covid-19 vaccine at the hospital and then developed symptoms of chill and mild fever. Two days later, she experienced symptoms of dry cough and chest pain. She booked a Grab ride to Truong Giang drugstore to buy medicine.

The drugstore and Van Thanh apartment building where she is living have been put on lockdown as well.

This is the first suspected case by community transmission in Binh Thuan during the current fourth wave.
