HCMC - After one week of the extended social distancing period, HCMC will re-evaluate the Covid-19 situation and consider maintaining, tightening or loosening the order in some parts of the city, Dr Nguyen Tri Dung, director of the HCMC Center for Disease Control, told a press briefing today, June 14.

Speaking of the decision to extend social distancing for two more weeks, Dr Dung said that it was hard to determine how long the disease could be eliminated, but the extension was necessary to slow down the spread of Covid-19.

Nguyen Huu Hung, deputy director of the HCMC Department of Health, said that after two weeks of social distancing, the city had basically put the infection clusters, especially the Revival Ekklesia Mission cluster, under control.

However, some new chains of infections have recently emerged while their sources of infection remained unknown. As such, extending social distancing in line with Directive 15 for two more weeks is essential, he added.

Apart from strictly following Covid-19 safety protocols, residents should cooperate with competent forces and medical workers to fight off the pandemic during the new, two-week social distancing period.

Hung also said that during the period, residents who get sick should restrict visits to healthcare centers if their health condition is not serious, the local media reported.
