HCMC – The Ministry of Health announced that Vietnam’s Covid-19 tally rose by 55 as of this evening, June 8, while 40 more coronavirus patients in the country have fully recovered in the day.
Among the new patients, two were quarantined upon their arrival in Vietnam from overseas. The remaining 53 caught the disease through community transmission, with 50 of them being detected in quarantined areas.
Of the domestic infections, 21 cases in Bac Giang Province and 15 cases in Bac Ninh Province were linked to industrial zones. In HCMC, 10 out of the 14 new cases in the city were linked to the Revival Ekklesia Mission infection cluster. The capital city of Hanoi reported two cases, while Ha Tinh Province had one.
Overall, the country’s latest coronavirus wave, which began on April 27, saw 6,004 infections in 39 provinces and cities, with Bac Giang being hit the hardest with 3,309 cases, followed by Bac Ninh and HCMC with 1,147 and 461 cases, respectively.
In related news, a local woman with underlying conditions in the northern province of Bac Giang died of Covid-19. This is the second Covid-19 death confirmed today and the 55th death since the pandemic hit Vietnam early last year, said the Health Ministry.
The 88-year-old woman died of severe pneumonia caused by Covid-19, septic shock, multi-organ failure, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and senility. She had a medical history of hypertension, diabetes, and heart failure.
She underwent a screening Covid-19 test in the Bac Giang Provincial General Hospital and the result came out positive on May 16. Ten days later, she was transferred to the Bac Giang Lung Hospital where she was diagnosed with pneumonia caused by Covid-19.
She showed poor response to medical treatment, experienced progressive respiratory failure, liver failure, acute kidney failure, anasarca, and slipped into a deep coma. She was then moved into intensive care before succumbing to the disease on June 7.
