HCMC - The Ministry of Health this morning, June 5, confirmed 77 new Covid-19 cases, sending the country’s Covid-19 tally to 8,364.

Two of them are imported cases who returned to the country on June 1 and are being treated in Tay Ninh Province.

Among 75 locally transmitted cases, 45 were detected in Bac Giang, 19 in Bac Ninh, 10 in HCMC and one in Ha Nam.

The country has reported 5,250 domestic infections during the fourth Covid-19 wave beginning April 27.

According to Nguyen Tan Binh, director of the HCMC Department of Health, the daily number of new Covid-19 cases in the city has decreased gradually since June 1. The city reported over 50 new Covid-19 cases everyday in late May, but the figure dropped to 43 on June 1 and 26 on June 4.

HCMC is currently the country’s fourth biggest Covid-19 hotspot in the latest outbreak, with 324 cases reported.

The city has received 71,800 doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines in the third phase of the national Covid-19 vaccination campaign.

These vaccine doses will be given to six priority groups such as medical workers, employees at seaports and airports, and inpatients under 65 years old that suffer from chronic diseases like kidney failure and diabetes.

The city expects to finish the third vaccination phase before August 15.

Up to now, the city has given nearly 64,300 Covid-19 vaccine shots to its citizens, including some 60,000 to frontline medical workers and 4,300 to people working at seaports, airports and quarantine centers.
