68 fresh domestic Covid-19 cases reported

HCMC - Vietnam’s Covid-19 tally has risen to 7,236 after the Ministry of Health confirmed 68 new domestic infections in six localities this afternoon, May 31.

Of the total, 48 cases were detected in Bac Giang, 12 in Hanoi, four in Bac Ninh, two in Long An, and one each in Daklak and Danang.

The Hanoi Center for Disease Control this morning recorded 27 new suspected cases, who were being quarantined at the Son Tay Military School.

Binh Duong Province's Center for Disease Control has also recorded three suspected ases, who are members of a family in Thuan An City, Binh Duong Province. The three are mother, elder sister and younger brother of two patients linked to the Revival Ekklesia Mission in HCMC.

In addition, a worker of a branch of CJ VINA Company in Binh Duong’s Thu Dau Mot City has been confirmed positive for the coronavirus and is being treated in HCMC. Thu Dau Mot has sent nearly 200 households related to the case into isolation and disinfected the company’s branch.

The cases in Hanoi and Binh Duong have not been confirmed by the Ministry of Health.

In related news, the Ma Lang area in HCMC’s District 1 has been put on lockdown as a woman residing in Alley 245 of the area has tested positive for Covid-19, said Do Thi Tan, deputy director of the medical center of District 1.

The patient is the mother of another case in Tan Phu District.

This afternoon, the District 1 medical center will coordinate with the HCMC Center for Disease Control to take samples from all residents in the alley for testing.

In another development, Bac Giang has put into operation two more field hospitals with a total of over 800 beds at Ngo Gia Tu College and Viet-Han Technology Vocational College.

According to the provincial steering committee for Covid-19 infection prevention and control, the field hospital at Viet-Han Technology Vocational College has 400 beds in its dorm and 200 beds in its indoor stadium.

In addition, a nursing center in the city can receive 200 patients, while the field hospital No. 2 at the Bac Giang indoor stadium has added 250 beds.

The field hospital No. 5 at the provincial employment service center has yet to be put into operation but it has been equipped with sufficient machines. It can accommodate 1,000 patients and 200 medical workers.

Moreover, an intensive care unit with 100 beds at the provincial Psychiatric Hospital is expected to be put into service on June 3.

At present, some 2,200 Covid-19 patients are being treated in the province.

Today, 31 first patients in the province were discharged from hospital.
