Vietnam records 40 more local Covid-19 cases

HCMC - Vietnam recorded 40 new locally transmitted Covid-19 cases in four provinces this morning, May 28, taking the country’s tally to 6,356.

Bac Giang Province had the biggest number of new cases, with 30 cases, followed by Lang Son with eight, while Thai Binh and Long An reported one case each. This is the first case detected in the southern province of Long An in the fourth Covid-19 wave since April 27.

Up to now, the country has reported 3,295 domestic infections in 31 cities and provinces in the latest outbreak. Nearly 1.039 million people have been vaccinated against Covid-19, including 4,129 people vaccinated on May 27.

Bac Giang remains the biggest Covid-19 hotspot in the country, with 1,678 cases to date.

The province’s second field hospital for Covid-19 treatment, with 620 beds, has been put into operation. The hospital is located at the provincial sports center and has received 500 Covid-19 patients right after it was opened.

“Two hundred Covid-19 patients from Bac Giang Psychiatric Hospital and 300 others from Viet Yen District have been sent to the second field hospital,” said Nguyen Trong Khoa, deputy director of the Medical Examination and Treatment Department.

The hospital has 500 medical workers, who come from Bac Giang Province General Hospital and district-level medical centers. It is also supported by 165 medical workers from Hospital 198 and Traditional Medicine Hospital of the Public Security Ministry.
