New local Covid-19 infections announced in Bac Ninh, Ninh Binh

HCMC – The Ministry of Health confirmed 33 fresh Covid-19 infections this morning, May 23, including two imported cases and 31 locally-imported ones in Bac Ninh and Ninh Binh provinces.

The 29 cases in Bac Ninh and two cases in Ninh Binh were detected in quarantine centers, the ministry said.

Up to now, the community transmission tally in Vietnam during the latest coronavirus wave since April 27 has reached 2,067 cases in 30 provinces and cities. Five provinces of Yen Bai, Quang Ngai, Dong Nai, Nghe An, and Quang Ninh have reported no fresh cases for 14 days.

Regarding the country’s Covid-19 inoculation program, 987 more people were vaccinated on May 22 in the southern province of Tay Ninh. To date, more than 1,027,000 doses of a Covid-19 vaccine have been given to people of priority groups nationwide. Of them, nearly 29,000 were fully vaccinated.

Further, over 179,000 people having close contact with coronavirus patients or returning to the country from virus-hit regions are under quarantine.

In a related development, the local competent forces in Hanoi last night locked down the Park 9 block in the Times City urban area in Hoang Mai District as an Indian baby girl living there tested positive for the coronavirus. During the lockdown period, residents are not allowed to enter or leave the block. Contact tracing works are underway.
