COVID-19 updates

-- Vietnam on Wednesday morning reported 33 local coronavirus infections in Hanoi, Vinh Phuc, Da Nang, Bac Giang, Lang Son, and Nam Dinh, increasing the country’s tally to 3,571, according to the Ministry of Health.

-- Forty students and eight teachers of Co Le Middle School in the northern province of Nam Dinh have been sent to quarantine after a sixth grader, who is son and brother of two COVID-19 patients, tested positive for the coronavirus.

-- Those who conceal, fail to report timely or make false reports of their or others’ status of COVID-19, as well as intentionally spreading the disease, will face a fine of up to VND20 million (US$865), according to a recently regulation enforced by Da Nang.

-- A total of 892,454 people in Vietnam had been given COVID-19 vaccine shots by Monday, the Vietnam News Agency reported, quoting Tuesday's report from the National Expanded Program on Immunization.

-- Minister of Information and Communications and Chairman of the Vietnam – India Friendship Association Nguyen Manh Hung on Tuesday presented 100 ventilators to help Indian people fight the COVID-19 pandemic during his virtual meeting with Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Pranay Verma, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

-- The Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime under the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security, in collaboration with police in the northern province of Ha Nam, has recently arrested Tran Van Lam, 23, who allegedly created a Facebook page where he thought up charity projects to scam donors out of more than VND6.6 billion (US$285,683).

-- Many streets in Hanoi were seriously flooded on Tuesday night, with traffic almost paralyzed after a heavy rain.

-- Scores of bodies are washing up on the banks of the Ganges as Indians fail to keep pace with the deaths and cremations of around 4,000 people a day from the novel coronavirus, Reuters reported on Wednesday.
