HCMC – After detecting a Covid-19 case, the Quang Ngai government asked students to stop attending school starting from 12.00 p.m. today, May 6, until further notice.
Following the directive of Quang Ngai Chairman Dang Van Minh issued at a meeting today, Do Van Phu, director of the provincial Department of Education and Training, signed the decision stopping in-person classes to prevent the spread of Covid-19, the local media reported.
In an effort to fight Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, the provincial department had earlier issued guidelines for schools to adjust their learning and teaching plans and complete the second semester exams in school before May 12.
The Covid-19 case, which is the first locally-transmitted Covid-19 case in Quang Ngai Province since the start of 2021, is a 25-year-old man residing in Quang Ngai City. He was linked to the New Phuong Dong bar in Danang City.
Besides, other provinces and cities, including Bac Ninh, Dong Nai, Ha Tinh, Lao Cai and Thai Binh, have made decisions allowing students to stay home as several locally-infected Covid-19 cases have been reported.
The Bac Ninh government on May 5 sent an urgent dispatch asking the provincial Department of Education and Training to temporarily shut down schools from May 6 to 9.
The Dong Nai Department of Education and Training on the same day told the education and training agencies in Long Khanh City and six communes in Xuan Loc District to allow students to stop attending school. Meanwhile, ninth graders in the province will continue their second semester exams and then stop going to school until further notice.
Acting Director of the Ha Tinh Department of Education and Training Dang Thi Quynh Diep this morning sent an urgent dispatch to schools asking them to complete the second semester exams before May 8 and shift to online learning and teaching. Kindergartens were told to close down from May 7, while ninth and 12th graders will continue their learning at schools, but strictly follow anti-virus measures.
Students in Sapa Town in the northern upland province of Lao Cai were allowed to stop attending school from May 6 to 9, while Thai Binh Province sought the suspension of schools on May 6.
Earlier, Hanoi, Ha Nam, Vinh Phuc and Hung Yen had stopped in-person classes to enhance their efforts to curb the spread of the disease.
