HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has sought using more drastic measures to curb Covid-19, stressing the need to convert from a defense state to an offense state to fight the pandemic but to also maintain harmony between defensive and offensive measures.

At a regular Cabinet meeting on May 5, PM Chinh hailed the Ministry of Health’s report on pandemic prevention and control and agreed that the country had basically controlled the pandemic.

However, the risk of Covid-19 outbreaks remains extremely high, the local media reported, citing PM Chinh.

The latest Covid-19 waves seem more complicated than the previous ones with serious consequences, the Government leader added, noting that the number of new Covid-19 cases and fatalities are increasing across the world, while illegal entry cases into Vietnam continue to rise.

In addition, many people, localities and agencies have become negligent. The supervision of those under centralized and home quarantine is fraught with shortcomings and new coronavirus variants are emerging more transmissible and complicated.

Therefore, the prime minister ordered new access methods and directions. He emphasized the need to prevent residents from being negligent, subjective and heedless or too anxious and panicky. Therefore, the competent agencies must be watchful, flexible and creative while dealing with specific situations.

Chinh also asked for the use of advanced technologies and the enhancement of the import of Covid-19 vaccines and large-scale vaccination.

He assigned the Ministry of Health to review and come up with criteria on pandemic prevention and control and the risk of pandemic transmission. It should also propose specific supervision and inspection measures so that agencies and localities can proactively take decisions based on their functions and practical situations.

It is necessary to further empower agencies from the central to the local levels to combat the pandemic, he said.
