Khanh Van departs for Miss Universe 2021 pageant in US

Khanh Van, the Vietnamese representative at the Miss Universe beauty pageant, set off from Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on May 2 in order to compete in Miss Universe 2021 being held in the United States.

As a result of the impact of the fresh coronavirus outbreak, not many people come to see off Khanh Van ahead of the global beauty contest.

The Miss Universe Vietnam 2019 winner is travelling to the pageant with 15 separate pieces of luggage.

A group of supporters come out to bid farewell to the beauty queen at the airport. All of them wear face masks and limit gathering in a crowd.

The Ho Chi Minh City-native receives plenty of special gifts from supporters as a way of offering her great encouragement to achieve success in the US.

Some of her relatives are present to see her off at the airport.

Whilst her parents always stand by their daughter, they show their concern about Van’s health due to the complicated nature of COVID-19 developments globally.

Khanh Van says that she will follow COVID-19 prevention and control measures, both in Vietnam as well as in foreign countries.

A number of other local beauties also wish her good luck at the airport, including Mau Thuy, the second runner-up of Miss Universe Vietnam 2017, and Kim Duyen, the first runner-up of Miss Universe Vietnam 2019.

After being hit by a year of delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 69th Miss Universe pageant is scheduled to get underway in the US between May 6 and May 16.

Voters will be able to participate in a vote launched by the Miss Universe pageant which will run until May 15. The winner of the vote will subsequently progress to be among the Top 21 finalists.
