HCMC – The HCMC government will propose the Ministry of Health allow it to proactively purchase Covid-19 vaccines for residents, HCMC Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong told a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam on April 23.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in HCMC has called on residents and firms to donate VND150 billion to the Covid-19 vaccination fund, said Phong.

As many as 108 people entered the city illegally last month, posing a high risk of Covid-19 infection, Phong said, proposing the Government ask the border provinces to tighten control over illegal entry and impose harsh sanctions on those entering the country illegally.

Deputy PM Dam said that the risk of Covid-19 community transmission remained high as the number of Covid-19 cases soared by 34% in Asia last week, so it was necessary to tighten control over illegal entry.

The deputy prime minister also told residents not to be negligent and called on them to inform the competent forces about cases of illegal entry. He also asked the local authorities to enhance control at border gates and lines.

Deputy PM Dam also ordered HCMC to impose tough sanctions on people without face masks in public places, the local media reported.
