Hanoi works to ensure best preparations for SEA Games 31 and ASEAN Para Games 11

The People’s Committee of Hanoi has recently issued Plan No. 91/KH-UBND on the organisation of the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) and the 11th ASEAN Para Games (ASEAN Para Games 11) in the city later this year.

SEA Games 31 is scheduled to take place in Vietnam between November 21 and December 2, while ASEAN Para Games 11 will follow from December 17 to 23. Hanoi has been designated to host the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the competitions in the majority of sports.

In order to well organise the aforementioned important events, along with the renovation and repair of the sports facilities in service of the regional Games, the municipal People’s Committee has directed the development of local athletes to participate in the national teams, striving to achieve high results and decisively contribute to the overall performances of the Vietnamese sports delegations at SEA Games 31 and ASEAN Para Games 11.

The city has requested agencies, departments and branches to effectively implement emulation movements to build a civilised lifestyle and polite communication style, observe the law and traffic safety regulations, and keep environmental hygiene green, clean and beautiful, in combination with the acceleration of the movement “All people unite to build cultural life”, towards promoting the image of elegant, civilised and friendly Hanoi people and leaving a good impression in the hearts of international friends. In additions, local efforts to maintain political security and social safety as well as to fight social evils and the pandemic will also be stepped up.



This is the second time Vietnam has hosted the regional Games, after the first time in 2003.

Relevant agencies have been asked to strengthen technical infrastructure to ensure the provision of logistics, transportation, tourism, health, and information technology services for SEA Games 31 and ASEAN Para Games 11. The municipal People’s Committee has also requested the embellishment of local markets, shops, trade centres and supermarkets, along with the proactive preparation of goods sources to serve international delegations, tourists and fans, ensuring abundance in volume, diversity in forms, quality and food safety.

 

Under the plan, the city will mobilise young people and students to join the voluntary forces serving activities in the framework of the Games, in addition to arranging tour guides and interpreters to support participating foreign athletes, trainers and visitors. Individuals and mass organisations will also be encouraged to get involved in voluntary activities to serve the Games in the capital.

The Hanoi People’s Committee has requested the organisation of SEA Games 31 and ASEAN Para Games 11 must ensure absolute safety in terms of social security and order, fire prevention and control, health care, and fighting the pandemic.

SEA Games 31 will feature more than 520 competition events in 40 sports, most of which are named in the Asian Games and Olympic Games systems. Meanwhile, ASEAN Para Games 11 will comprise of 14 sports with about 400 competition events. This is the second time Vietnam has hosted the regional Games, after the first time in 2003.
