HCMC – National Assembly (NA) deputies on April 1 approved a resolution to vote for Tran Thanh Man, president of the Fatherland Front of Vietnam Central Committee; Nguyen Khac Dinh, secretary of the Khanh Hoa Party Committee; and Nguyen Duc Hai, a member of the NA’s Standing Committee and chairman of the NA’s Committee for Finance and Budget, as new vice chairpersons of the NA with an approval rate of 94.79%.

The resolution will come into force immediately. The three new NA vice chairmen will take charge of the jobs of their predecessors--Tong Thi Phong, Uong Chu Luu and Phung Quoc Hien-- who were relieved from their posts yesterday, March 31, the local media reported.

Thus, the NA currently has four vice chairmen, Man, Dinh, Hai and Do Ba Ty.

Phong, Luu and Hien were not elected to the 13th Party Central Committee and neither was Ty, but the candidate who was meant to replace Ty has yet to become an NA deputy, so Ty will continue his job until the new tenure of the NA.

Man, 59, is a doctor of economics and a resident of the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang. He used to be deputy secretary of the Can Tho Party Committee, chairman of the municipal government and secretary of the municipal Party Committee before holding the post of vice president of the Fatherland Front of Vietnam Central Committee from October 2015 to June 2017. He led the committee from June 2017.

Meanwhile, Dinh, 57, was born in the northern province of Thai Binh and is a doctor of law. He was head of the Government Office’s Department of Secretarial and Editorial Affairs, an assistant to the prime minister and vice chairman of the Government Office.

From July 2016, he was a member of the 14th NA’s Standing Committee and head of the 14th NA’s Legislation Committee.

In October 2019, he was elected as secretary of the 17th Khanh Hoa Party Committee for the 2015-2020 tenure. At the 18th provincial Party congress, he was reelected.

Hai, 60, a master of economics and a resident of Quang Nam Province, used to be deputy secretary of the Quang Nam Party Committee, chairman of the provincial government and secretary of the provincial Party Committee. From early 2015 to 2016, he was deputy head of the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission.

From 2011 to 2016, he was a member of the NA’s Foreign Affairs Committee. At the 11th sitting of the 13th NA in April 2016, he was elected as a member of the NA’s Standing Committee and chairman of the NA’s Committee for Finance and Budget.
