Vietnam to plant 1 billion new trees to cope with climate change, natural disasters

The Government has been working very hard to protect forests as storms, floods, droughts, and salt water intrusion have caused heavy loss of life and property in Vietnam in recent years.

Vietnam is one of the world’s most vulnerable countries to climate change. It suffered more than 220 extreme events in 1999-2018 with losses of more than 2 billion USD per year, according to Global Climate Risk Index, published by German environmental think tank Germanwatch.

A series of storms and floods late last year resulted in over 240 fatalities and damage of 1.3 billion USD.
