During the week-long event, the Party Central Committee will review comments on the draft documents to be submitted to the 13th Party Central Committee, nominate candidates to the Politburo of the next Party Central Committee, and discuss working regulations of the 13th National Party Congress.

In the previous Plenum, the Party Central Committee discussed important matters, including the socio-economic situation in 2020 and the plan for 2021; draft documents for the 13th National Party Congress, and a personnel plan for the 13th Party Central Committee.

The Party Central Committee also discussed major tasks for 2021 and following years, along with possible scenarios so as to prepare suitable responses for even the worst situation.

Viet Nam holds National Party Congress every five years, with the next Congress scheduled to take place in early 2021.

A National Party Congress have main duties: it approves the Political Report, adopts Viet Nam’s Socio-Economic Plan for the next five and 10 years, amends Party Statutes, and most importantly, elects new Party Central Committee.

The newly-elected Party Central Committee will then convene first Plenum to elect the Party General Secretary, the Secretariat, and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission and its members.
