The bilingual book in Vietnamese and Spanish entitled “Fidel Castro and Vietnam – Unforgettable Memories” was presented to Vietnamese readers on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cuba (December 2, 1960 – 2020).
The book features a compilation of over 30 articles narrating memories, thoughts and feelings of Vietnamese Party and State leaders, diplomats, writers and journalists about former Cuban President Fidel and his people.

Mrs.Truong Thi Mai, Politburo member and head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilization, in the foreword of this 300-page-book, expressed her appreciation about the ideas and contributions of Phan Van Quy – Hero of the People’s Armed Forces- who put forth the idea of making the book. Quy was awarded the title Hero of the People’s Armed Forces in 1976.
The car he used to drive along Truong Son trail, the Russian Zil 157, is now on display at the Museum of Logistics of Vietnam People’s Army. He was also a delegate of the Vietnam’s youth delegation attending the 11th World Youth and Student Festival held in 1978 in Cuba.
Mrs. Mai hoped that the valuable information documented in the book will practically contribute to eternalizing the relationship between the two countries and peoples.
According to Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Lianys Torres Rivera, the two countries have maintained an exemplary political relations since the establishment of the diplomatic ties. With the support of two country’s leaders and peoples, the long-standing brotherhood between Vietnam and Cuba will immortalize. “Cuba and Vietnam will continue to develop their comprehensive cooperation on the basis of the special political bonds between the two countries,” she said.
The book compilation team includes Vietnamese high-ranking officials such as Mr. Nguyen Dinh Bin, former member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; major Gen. Le Phuc Nguyen, former editor-in-chief of the People’s Army newspaper; Colonel Nguyen Duy Tuong, Editor-in-Chief of the Vietnam Veterans Newspaper.
