Due to the effect of Storm Atsani, many areas in Quang Ngai and Quang Nam have had heavy rains and serious flooding.
Heavy rain continually from late November 5 to early November 6 forced the authorities in Quang Nam Province to issue landslide warnings. Since roads have been damaged, communication is very limited.
A local said, “I heard a loud noise from the mountain and the sky went dark as the rain suddenly poured down.”
Tran Duy Dung, chairman of Nam Tra My People’s Committee, said they had evacuated over 1,000 people in vulnerable areas to avoid landslides. “We have activated the siren system and given each household the shelter address to go to if there is a landslide,” he said.
Quang Ngai Province also saw many streets, such as Quang Trung, Tran Hung Dao and Nguyen Nghiem, submerged after the heavy rain. Students in Duc Hoa and Duc Phu were unable to go to school as the road was deeply flooded.
Lifeboats are ready in Nghia Hanh District in case the flood gets worse. The rain submerged many areas and isolated Gieng Mach residential area in Phu Tho Village.
