The flood in Central Vietnam is a historic storm. Large floods were caused by the 16 main rivers, which then led to extensive flooding. However, the consistent and timely measures at all levels have reduced the damage.
Consistent and timely arrangement
In the past few days, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has directly reviewed the work to remedy the effects of the flood in Central Vietnam and discussed this work with the heads of the five provinces affected, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Quang Nam, Thua Thien Hue and Ha Tinh. He has also sent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh and Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung to the flooded provinces to work with the provincial leaders to lead the aftermath and rescue work. The Vietnamese head of government has issued eight service telegrams and numerous documents to order natural disaster protection. He has decided to supply the provinces in central Vietnam with disinfectant chemicals from the national supply, which will serve to prevent and control the epidemic. In addition, US $ 21.5 million was provisionally made available from the central budget reserve for rescue work, social welfare and flood relief. 5000 tons of rice and a lot of equipment from the national supply were also made available for residents in the five provinces in central Vietnam and for the rescue workers.
During a business trip to review work to eradicate the consequences of the flood in Quang Binh province last Saturday, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said:
“We have to do the work necessary to allow the residents to live normally. These include questions about the environment and the epidemic, for example. We also need to ensure that the affected residents do not go hungry and do not become homeless. The aid of the provinces for the residents should also be better organized. ”
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the authorities in central Vietnam have mobilized all resources to clean up the effects of the flood, guaranteeing food and drinking water as well as other essential goods. They have also deployed forces to help residents repair homes, clean up and prevent an epidemic.
Care was also taken to create favorable conditions for the auxiliary workers. Some provinces have offered the aid workers free hotels. The transportation industry has temporarily suspended road tolls on Highway 1 which runs through Quang Tri Province.
Building consensus of public opinion
The concrete timely order of the government to remedy the consequences of the flood in central Vietnam shows the attention paid to the flood victims. This is a necessary help for the affected residents in overcoming the difficulties. MEP Do Van Sinh from Quang Tri Province said:
“The government, the ministries and, above all, the Ministry of Health have worked well with the People's Committee of the affected provinces on environmental hygiene. The issues of drinking water, electricity and food are guaranteed. We should also introduce a subsidy policy to support the residents in restoring production. ”
Last month, the six provinces in central Vietnam were hit by three storms and two tropical cyclones. With the timely order of the government, the consistent commitment of the provinces and the support of citizens at home and abroad, the residents of Central Vietnam have gradually stabilized life again.
