In Thua Thien-Hue province, 17 workers were reported missing in a mudslide that occurred on October 12 at the site of the Rao Trang 3 hydropower plant in Phong Dien district. At present, only two bodies have been found among the victims. Relief operations are continuing.
During the night of October 1213 of the 21 soldiers and officials who came to report on the situation were buried by a new landslide at ranger station 67 where they stayed overnight, at about 13 km from Rao Trang 3. Earlier, a landslide also occurred on October 17 at 6:30 p.m. in Huong Hoa district, burying six people from the same family. So far, all the bodies have been found.
The torrential rains which fell for several days over large areas caused landslides, flash floods and flooding in some localities in the Center and the Central Highlands. The affected provinces and cities evacuated more than 28900 homes, or nearly 90970 people, in the provinces of Ha Tinh in Quang Nam. The Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Response, Search and Rescue and the Army mobilized some 10000 people to support local forces.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc called on October 18 to strengthen relief measures and to deal with the consequences of floods and deadly landslides in the Center and the Central Highlands, in particular the provinces of Thua Thien - Hue and Quang Tri.
In an official telegram, the head of government also sent his sympathy and deep condolences to the relatives of the victims, taking full measure of the difficulties and losses of these families and local administrations. He asked the Provincial People's Committees and the ministries and departments concerned to work together to coordinate the settlement of the consequences of floods and floods, the search for the missing, the funerals of the victims and the treatment of the wounded.
The head of government recommended to the localities to provide all the basic necessities to the victims, to continue the controls and to review the high-risk areas to evacuate their inhabitants in time. The Prime Minister ordered the Ministry of Finance to allocate 500 billion VND and 5000 tons of rice extracted from national reserves to the central provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien - Hue and Quang Nam.
On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung, head of a mission, visited Quang Tri to lead aid operations for flood victims.
Previously, on October 13 the Vice President of the Republic, Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, visited residents of Le Thuy and Quang Ninh districts, in the central province of Quang Binh, severely affected by severe flooding in recent days. . In Quang Ninh district, it had donated more than 100 million VND (over US $ 4310) to the mountainous commune of Truong Son to help its residents overcome the consequences of the floods. It also distributed 60 packages of essential goods to poor households in the area.
In the district of Le Thuy, it had granted 100 million VND each to the communes of Lien Thuy and An Thuy, 30 million VND to the kindergarten of the commune of Lien Thuy and 50 parcels to the local populations.
Also on October 13 a second Vietnam Red Cross relief package was delivered to four central provinces - Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien - Hue and Quang Nam - with a total value of 1.4 billion. of dongs. Agencies of the National Assembly (NA), the NA Standing Committee and the NA Bureau launched a fundraising campaign on 16 October to support residents of provinces severely affected by the floods.
The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (PCV) secretariat called on the local Party Committees to ensure maximum security for the population and rescue means, as well as to provide support to the affected people.
