A Covid-19-affected British pilot who is staying at a hospital in HCM City for the treatment is expected to be released from hospital soon for his rapid recovery.

The 43-year-old pilot has completely stopped using a ventilator for eight days and seen good improvement in his organs, including heart, liver and lung.

According to head of the Health Ministry’s Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Luong Ngoc Khue, doctors at Cho Ray Hospital are considering moving him to the Rehabilitation Ward from the Intensive Care Ward at present.

However, it would pose him risks of infection during the physical therapy process, so he needs more time for a full recovery.

Doctors added that the patient is now eligible to be discharged from hospital and to return to his home in the UK. But, to ensure safety, it is necessary to have medical staff to go with him.

The National Steering Board on Covid-19 Prevention and Control will hold a consultation on his condition this week before allowing him to be released from hospital later this week.

With the Health Ministry confirming no new Covid-19 case Monday morning, Vietnam has entered its 67th consecutive day without community transmission of the disease.
