Coffee shop looking at dó paper paintings
HANOI – In addition to serving drinks, the small cafe also displays do paper according to the modern art
A couple in Ho Chi Minh City decided to switch their business of selling fish tanks to pebble paintings after seeing customers’ interest in decorative stones.
Nguyen Thi Tuyet Nhung and her husband Ngo Quoc Vo in Thu Duc City have been customizing pebble paintings to customers' orders for three years.
The pebbles used for paintings at the couple’s shop are natural cobblestones of various sizes.
A pebble painting starts with consulting customers for their orders before choosing suitable pebbles and creating the paintings as they wish.
After finishing a painting, the shop will photograph it and send the photo to the customer and adjust the painting to the customer’s requests.
According to Vo, the hardest task to make a pebble painting is to work on natural pebbles with a rough surface.
His wife Nhung added that one of the most important steps is choosing the right pebble to work on.
“We carefully listen to customers’ stories to turn it into a soulful painting on the pebble,” Nhung shared.
“There were many special stories that we will remember forever,” Vo recalled, mentioning an order for a painting of two little feet as a gift for someone who had a miscarriage.
“For such requests, we always try to do our best so that the painting can deliver its emotional value.
“What makes us happiest is not selling a lot of paintings, but the emotional exchange between the painters and customers after listening to their stories."
Nhung and Vo’s shop Sỏi Nghe Thuật - G.Art is located at 215E18 Nguyen Van Huong in Thao Dien Ward, Thu Duc City under Ho Chi Minh City.
A pebble painting at the shop fetches VND800,000-6 million. (US1 = VND22,865)
Besides pebble paintings, the shop also sells wooden paintings, bamboo thermos, and more.
