Each day is important and has its own meaning in our lives. Here are information of four international ones in July 2021 that are celebrated every year as an occasion to mark a particular event or topic.

International Kissing Day

International Kissing Day 2021: Date

International Kissing Day was established in 2006 to focus on the kissing that takes place between lovers, and to celebrate the place it holds in our society. One of the most surprising things about this holiday is the research that revealed that 5% of people over the age of 45 are locking lips at least 31 times a week! Who would have thought that old fires burn so hot?

Kissing Day aims to make us appreciate a kiss in its own right. No conventions, no social norms, just a kiss. Across the globe we embrace the kiss by embracing someone else.

International Kissing Day or World Kiss Day continues to be celebrated on July 6. The idea behind the International Kissing Day is that many people may have forgotten the simple pleasures associated with kissing for kissing’s sake, as opposed to kissing as mere social formality or prelude to other activities. Kissing can be an enjoyable experience in and of itself. It is an expression and experience of intimacy.

International Kissing Day 2021: Celebration

According to Days of The Year, International Kissing Day has become such an event that different countries have novel-yet-typical methods when the kissing holiday rolls around. The French, for instance, disregard their usual greeting and blow air kisses instead.

The Greeks and Italians dispense with pleasantries altogether. Men and women straight up kiss on the lips, so don’t be offended if you are accosted in Rome or Athens. It’s cultural!

However, the Pacific Islanders have the cutest custom – Eskimo kisses. In traditional Inuit style, people rub their noses together while breathing in. Hygiene-wise, it’s no bueno, but romance-wise, it can’t be beaten.

The art of kissing transcends cultural norms. No matter which country or customs you belong to, kissing is celebrated as an enjoyable activity. Whether it is an affectionate peck on the cheek, or a deep, passionate kiss shared between lovers, International Kissing Day is all about expressing love through kisses.

Don’t hold back today! Kiss your partner good morning and plant some more on them throughout the day. Ladies, greet your girl gang with cheek-to-cheek kisses, and, guys, peck your mother or sister lovingly on the forehead. Kisses on the back of the hand are underrated, so why not ‘hand’ them out too. There are countless ways to kiss, romantic or otherwise.

Here are some kissing day activities suggested by National Today:

Give someone you love a kiss

Whether it's your significant other, your mom, or your best friend, remind someone how much you love them with a kiss. Just remember: even though you might want to kiss someone, it doesn't mean they want you to be kissed by you—keep it consensual.

Snack on Hershey's Kisses

Did you know that Hershey's Kisses fit perfectly into your puckered lips? Although no one knows exactly why they're called Hershey's Kisses, legend has it they were named after the sound the chocolate makes when it's dropping onto the conveyer belt. How romantic!

Kiss everyone hello on both cheeks

In many cultures (particularly French), it is common practice to peck people once on both cheeks as a greeting. Try it on your friends and colleagues. But pecks only, please—no tongue!

World Population Day

World Population Day 2021: Date

To create awareness about the overgrowing population and take steps to control the same, World Population Day is observed on 11th July annually worldwide.

According to the UN, World Population Day, which seeks to focus attention on the urgency and importance of population issues, was established by the then-Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989, an outgrowth of the interest generated by the Day of Five Billion, which was observed on 11 July 1987.

By resolution 45/216 of December 1990, the United Nations General Assembly decided to continue observing World Population Day to enhance awareness of population issues, including their relations to the environment and development.

The Day was first marked on 11 July 1990 in more than 90 countries. Since then, a number of a number of UNFPA country offices and other organizations and institutions commemorate World Population Day, in partnership with governments and civil society.

The day is significant because it highlights the problems of overpopulation, raises awareness about the effects of overpopulation on the environment and development. It also talks about the health problems faced by child bearing women and the importance of family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health and human rights, India.com reported.

World Population Day 2021: Celebration

According to Yourfates, this year the UNFPA’s goal on World Population Day 2021 is to raise awareness of women’s and girls’ needs for sexual and reproductive health and vulnerabilities during the pandemic.

The theme this year is based on safeguarding the health and rights of women and girls around the world especially during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. A recent UNFPA research highlighted that if the lockdown continues for 6 months, and there is a major disruption to health services, then 47 million women in low and middle-income countries might not have access to modern contraceptives. This would in turn lead to 7 million unintended pregnancies. Apart from that, it could see a rise in gender-based violence, female genital mutilation, and child marriages.

International Population Day is observed to reaffirm the human rights to plan for a family. It encourages activities, events and information to help make this right a reality throughout the world. The day is celebrated worldwide by business groups, communities, organisations, NGOs, social welfare organizations and individuals in many ways. Activities include seminar discussions, educational information sessions, painting and essay competitions, letting people know about the population control programs announced by the government and child adoption.

Let us make an effort to reduce the world population by supporting the initiatives taken by the United Nations. Participation in the action taken by the social welfare associations at the local, National and International level is also essential, Upscbuddy reported.

International Tiger Day

International Tiger Day 2021: Date

According to India Today, the International Tiger Day is celebrated on July 29 every year. This year marks the tenth International Tiger Day. The main aim behind this day is to promote a global system for protecting the natural habitats of tigers and to raise public awareness and support for tiger conservation issues.

Why is International Tiger Day observed on 29th July? The celebration is done on 29th July as a reminder of the agreement signed by countries in the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia in 2010 to raise awareness about the decreasing tiger population globally. Also, the representatives declared that the tiger populated countries would make efforts to almost double the tiger population by the year 2022.

According to World Wildlife Fund currently, tiger populations are stable or increasing in India, Nepal, Bhutan, Russia and China. But in some areas, including much of Southeast Asia, tigers are still in crisis and declining in number.

International Tiger Day: Celebration

This international day is celebrated annually with the slogan/theme “Their Survival is in our hands”. The importance of this day is to create awareness of the declining tiger population and conserving tigers globally. Observing World Tiger Day is also significant because, according to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), currently, there are only 3900 wild tigers globally. From the beginning of the 20th century, around 95% of the tiger population has been lost in various activities like poaching.

Despite efforts in conserving tigers from the year 1970’s, the tiger population showed a rapid decrease in number. Therefore in the year 2010, at the St. Petersburg Declaration, tiger range countries have resolved to double the number of tigers by 2022. Tigers are one of the most majestic and royal species that we have seen globally. They are also called the “Umbrella Species” as their conservation also conserve many other species in the same habitat.

Many well known animal organisations such as the WWF, the IFAW and the Smithsonian Institute get behind this event. You can get involved in the conversation around this important day on Twitter using the hashtag #WorldTigerDay or #InternationalTigerDay .

Here are a few ways by which we can help conserve and increase the tiger population, as reported by Upscbuddy:

-Conserve natural habitats – Let us not cut down the forests for our needs. Let us help save forests hence saving the natural habitat for tigers.

-Control Climate changes – Lets us make efforts to control the climatic changes. It will not be wise of us to drive it from bad to worse. This increase in heat is melting the ice, eventually raising the sea levels. This increase in the sea levels is wiping out the Sundarbans (mangrove forests). Controlling the climatic changes will help us save Sundarbans, the largest habitat for the Royal Bengal tigers.

-Prefer Sanctuaries / Reservoirs to Zoo – Wildlife Sanctuaries are bigger spaces, and when amongst nature, tigers are much at home than being caged in a zoo. Hence encourage more sanctuaries and natural reservoirs.

International Friendship Day

World Friendship Day 2021: Date

According to Awarenessdays, World Friendship Day, also known as International Day of Friendship takes place on 30th July.

The original idea for a day of friendship came from Hallmark cards in the 1930’s. Originally celebrated on 2nd August, the day was largely viewed cynically by the public as a money making exercise, sales of friendship day cards did not take off in Europe and by the mid-1940’s the day had faded into obscurity in the USA. The idea of a day to honour friendship was, however, adopted by a number of countries in Asia where it remained a popular custom to reserve a day for celebrating friendships and the exchange of gifts between friends.

The first World Friendship Day was proposed for 30 July 1958 by the World Friendship Crusade, an international civil organisation that campaigns to foster a culture of peace through friendship. Many years later, in 2011, the 30th July was declared as the International Day of Friendship by the General Assembly of United Nations.

With the growing popularity of social media throughout the world, there has been an increase in celebrating World Friendship day and International Day of Friendship online as well as with community activities in local communities aimed at bringing those of different backgrounds together.
