HCMC – Businesses in HCMC have provided thousands of boxes of necessities comprising instant noodles, fish sauce, soy sauce, sugar, rice and sausages as well as cash for people in Go Vap District and Thanh Loc Ward, District 12, which are Covid-19 hotspots in the city.

Due to an upsurge in new Covid-19 cases, the city has imposed social distancing measures in Go Vap District and Thanh Loc Ward, District 12, to curb the spread of the pandemic. These measures have severely affected the livelihoods of many local residents.

Therefore, the Food and Foodstuff Association of HCMC (FFA), the HCMC Support Center for Enterprise Development, the HCMC Association of Mechanical and Electrical Enterprises and the Saigon Times Group under the HCMC People’s Committee have joined hands to call on enterprises to support people in virus-hit areas.

Nguyen Nguyen Phuong, deputy director of the HCMC Department of Industry and Trade, said the city is trying its best to fulfill the dual mission of containing Covid-19 and sustaining economic growth. The department itself is committed to ensuring sufficient goods for people in the city, especially in areas on lockdown.

“To support people in areas on lockdown, the HCMC Department of Industry and Trade has launched a number of initiatives and called on enterprises to participate. Many enterprises have donated necessities and money for people in Go Vap District and Thanh Loc Ward, District 12, in just a short time,” Phuong said.

Some of the enterprises include the Ba Huan Joint Stock Company, the Vissan Joint Stock Company, the Tan Quang Minh Manufacture and Trading Company Limited, the San Ha Company Limited, the ACECOOK Vietnam Joint Stock Company, the Saigon Aquatic Products Trading Joint Stock Company, the Lien Thanh Seafood Processing Joint Stock Company, the Cholimex Food Joint Stock Company, the Thanh Thanh Cong - Bien Hoa Joint Stock Company and the Tuong Lai Company Limited.

Besides enterprises, the program has also received donations from individuals.

“We hope that the HCMC government and the public will join hands to fight the pandemic and prevent it from spreading to industrial zones, helping enterprises sustain production and growth. This will be the foundation for them to be healthy and enthusiastic enough to support FFA in social programs in the coming time,” said Ly Kim Chi, chairwoman of FFA.

Pham Thanh Hung, director of Ba Huan Joint Stock Company, said companies are facing many challenges, including preventing the spread of Covid-19 in the community and at companies and sustaining the production and supply of goods. Enterprises are also contributing to supporting people affected by the pandemic.

Than Trong Minh, chairman of the Go Vap District Fatherland Front Committee, spoke highly of the enterprises’ support for people in affected areas.

“The frontline forces of the district and the city have been working hard as Covid-19 cases are still rising. People in the district have strictly complied with the Government’s anti-Covid-19 directives. The enterprises’ timely support for the people is very important in the context of the lockdown,” he said.

Donations from everyone will contribute to supporting the frontline forces and people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
