When and how can people register for COVID-19 vaccinations in Vietnam?

Vietnam has begun COVID-19 vaccination that is aimed at priority groups in certain localities first due to limited shot supply.

According to Vu Thu Ha, supply chain director of the Vietnam Vaccine JSC (VNVC), the firm has signed a deal to purchase 30 million COVID-19 vaccine doses developed by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford.

The Ministry of Health has established a vaccination plan for these shots, Ha added.

VNVC is exerting its best effort to negotiate with its partners in order to secure more types of COVID-19 vaccine with high efficacy and quality for Vietnam, she continued.

As the inoculation will be carried out under the direction of the central government and health ministry, VNVC has yet to come up with prices for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Regarding how to register for COVID-19 vaccination, Ha stated that the information will be updated on the official website of VNVC (vnvc.vn) in the coming time.

Vietnam expects to obtain 150 million doses for the whole population this year, with 60 million already secured from AstraZeneca and the COVAX Facility co-led by the World Health Organization.

The Southeast Asian country received its first COVID-19 vaccine shipment on February 24 – a batch of 117,600 doses of COVID-19 vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford. This is part of the 30 million jabs VNVC has bought from AstraZeneca.

Due to the limited supply, the health ministry has planned on distributing these vaccine doses to 13 provinces and cities, 21 hospitals and medical centers, as well as the Ministry of Public Security and Ministry of National Defense.

People belonging to target groups listed in Government Resolution No. 21 will be the first to get vaccinated.

The vaccination was officially initiated on Monday at four locations in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and the northern province of Hai Duong.

The country’s Expanded Program on Immunization said on Tuesday that Vietnam will receive more than 5.6 million additional vaccine shots in March and April.
