HCMC – The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 9 announced its plan to offer emergency aid worth US$41 million for cold storage facilities to store Covid-19 vaccines in Vietnam and 24 other countries, which have been hit by the coronavirus pandemic.

The 24 other countries benefiting from the relief aid comprise nine nations in Southeast Asia, five in Southwest Asia and 10 in the Pacific Islands, the local media reported.

The assistance will also cover transportation equipment and cold storage facilities to ensure the vaccination in each country is done in cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund, according to the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

With its experience in helping build medical supply networks across many developing countries, Japan will continue to extend its support so that Covid-19 vaccines can be administered to every person in the world, contributing to containing the global health crisis as soon as possible.

Japan is one of the countries to have provided much support for the COVAX Facility to accelerate access to vaccines in the global market. The country has committed to a financial contribution of US$200 million to the COVAX Facility.
