Photo exhibition celebrates Women’s Day
A photo exhibition – Portraits de Femmes (Portraits of Women) – opened at the central city's Fine Art Museum
Photos with the theme 'Vietnamese women' are being shown at an exhibition held in Ho Chi Minh City by the French Institute in Vietnam.
Part of a series of events focusing on Vietnamese women, the exhibition titled 'Women Portraits' showcases works taken by 15 young photographers from Ho Chi Minh City and the central city of Hue.
The photos displayed from Monday are the outcomes of two photography workshops held by the institute in the two cities in January and hosted by famous photographers Maika Elan, Binh Dang, and Nicolas Cornet.
The pieces reflect various topics around the photographers’ life when it comes female perspectives, including their thoughts of gender, their love for their grandmothers, or the role of women in daily life.
“The exhibition does not aim for the excellence of the photos, but on the contrary, this is an opportunity for young photographers to express themselves through the series of images which tell their own emotional stories when being placed together,” the institute said in a press release ahead of the exhibition.
The event will also feature stories about famed Vietnamese women, including Vietnam Airlines pilot Huynh Ly Dong Phuong, musician Le Cat Trong Ly, Vietnamese-French dancer Pham Linh Dan and more, written by French journalist Sabrina Rouille and illustrated with works by artist Le Phi Long.
The 'Women Portraits' exhibition will run through April 11 at the Institute of Cultural Exchange with France (IDECAF) in District 1 with free admission.
